Frequently Asked Questions About Residential Pumps
The questions below are what homeowners ask us most often about residential pump installation, service and repair in Sydney. Anything else, call 02 8667 5354.
-
How quickly can you respond to a residential pump emergency in Sydney?
Our target is 60 minutes on site across St George, Sutherland Shire and wider Sydney. Failed booster pumps that cut water supply, dead rainwater pumps and stormwater sumps flooding basements are dispatched as priority. Call 02 8667 5354 and we will mobilise.
-
What types of residential pumps do you install and service?
Submersible, centrifugal, pressure booster, rainwater, stormwater and sump, sewage and macerator pumps. Single-pump installations and multi-pump sets with controllers, alarms and redundancy. If you are unsure what pump your property has, send a photo and we will identify it before attending.
-
Do I need a booster pump for my two-storey home?
If you have low mains pressure or rely on a rainwater tank, often yes. Two-storey homes typically need around 200 kPa minimum at upstairs fixtures, and a properly sized booster set delivers that consistently. We test mains pressure first and only recommend a booster if it is genuinely needed.
-
How often should residential pumps be serviced?
Rainwater and booster pumps benefit from an inspection every 12 to 24 months. Sump and stormwater pumps should be tested before the wet season each year. Macerator pumps in basement bathrooms need an annual check. We can set up a service schedule and records for your property.
-
Do you service rainwater tank pumps?
Yes. Pressure-switch, float-control and tank-to-mains changeover rainwater pumps are all serviced and repaired. Common faults include burnt-out motors, failed pressure switches and waterlogged pressure tanks. Most are repaired same visit with parts on the van.
-
Can you install a sewage or macerator pump for a basement bathroom?
Yes. Basement bathrooms and below-floor laundries need a sewage pump or macerator to lift effluent up to the gravity sewer line. We design and install macerator pumps for smaller duties and full sewage ejectors for larger applications, all to AS/NZS 3500.2.
-
What signs indicate a residential pump is failing?
Common warnings include cycling on and off rapidly, running constantly without reaching pressure, unusual noise or vibration, tripping the circuit breaker, water hammer, or a high-level alarm on a sewage or stormwater pump. Any of these warrants a diagnostic visit before complete failure.
-
What compliance standards apply to residential pump work in NSW?
Residential pump installation in NSW must comply with the relevant Australian Standards: AS/NZS 3500.1 (Water Services), 3500.2 (Sanitary Plumbing and Drainage) and 3500.3 (Stormwater), depending on the application. Electrical work on pump controllers must be done by a licensed electrician. EKORP holds NSW licence 322223C.
